| School & Youth Groups
OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND The Centre is open all year for Day visits and Residentials, Personal development programmes, 6th Form Inductions, GCSE programmes and After School Clubs. Although we are an Outdoor Centre, a number of our activities (Rock climbing, Archery, Trampoline, Target shooting & Fencing) take place under cover, and we have plenty of indoor activity space for when the weather is poor.
ACCOMMODATION We can accommodate 32 young people in 8 x 4 bedded bunk rooms with two twin bed leaders rooms. All rooms are centrally heated with wash handbasins. Residential groups have the use of the common room / dining room and there is a lecture room and lounge which are available to groups for supervised activities. We only have one residential group at a time, so there is no problem with shared facilities and different standards. A key Instructor is appointed for each residential group; he/she will liase with you and will assist at mealtimes and will run an evening activity for the group from 7.00pm - 9.30pm. In the very small amount of free time left, under 13s can use the playpark and Adventure Play with a ball pool, climbing tower, sand pit, etc
DAY VISITS We can provide day visits for larger groups (exceptionally up to 150), typically 9.30am - 4.30pm each day.
'SHOULDER' SEASON VISITS. The majority of primary and middle schools want to come to Mepal after SATs week and before the end of the Summer term. Because many schools book from year to year, new vacancies are limited in that period. However, we can offer a full range of activities, including Watersports, from Easter to late October. There are real advantages in the 'out of season' residential; prices are even lower, the weather in recent years has been better in September / October than it has been in July, and educationally there is the opportunity to build on the adventurous residential experience during the remainder of the term, whereas in June / July, everything is pointing towards the long Summer Holidays! November December, January and February visits are even better value, and, whilst we don't usually kayak, sail or snorkel in the Winter we have plenty of under cover and indoor adventurous activities to make for a really memorable short visit; perhaps one night and two full days of activities.... ideal for a first residential experience.
YOUTH, SCHOOL, UNIFORMED GROUPS Please telephone or Email to check availability and costs. Full board accommodation is available for groups of 15—36 young people; larger or self catering groups can camp at the Centre.
SPECIAL NEEDS We welcome small groups of young people and adults with learning difficulties or physical disabilities who are able to access most of the facilities and activities at Mepal. Our new ScrambleZone has been built specially for young people with limited mobility.
BOOKING TERMS AND CONDITIONS are available as a download from our 'Download' page.
