Affordable Outdoor
Adventurous Activities for Everyone,
Regardless of Age or Ability. The
Mepal Outdoor Centre is a very unusual recreation, leisure and training resource,
unique in East Anglia (at least) for its blend of facilities, programme and
clients. Although in the middle of the Cambridgeshire Fens, Mepal is less
than 40 minutes drive away from Peterborough, Cambridge, Newmarket, Wisbech
and Huntingdon!
The Centre is situated on the West side of the A141 (Ely
- March road), between Sutton and Chatteris. The Centre
offers a wide range of facilities for watersports, adventurous
activities and children's play.
Modern purpose built premises include dormitories, showers,
toilets, dining room, lecture room, lounge, sports hall
and an indoor climbing centre, built in the shores of a
twenty acre lake.
The Centre is owned and run by the Mepal Outdoor Centre
Charitable Trust and although it provides residential and
day activities for more than 40 Cambridgeshire schools and
colleges, receives no support or assistance from the County
Council, meeting all of its day to day costs from income.
Volunteers are always welcome at Mepal; we would like to
run more activity clubs for young people and adults in the
local area but are constrained by the need to provide qualified
and experienced Instructors to supervise them. A volunteer
application is available both as a word document and a pdf
file in the Downloads Section. |
